Image-Guided Radiosurgery for Radiation OncologyLourdes has taken the next step toward maintaining the level of technical capability in our Regional Cancer Center that can be found in many university settings - Stereotactic Radiosurgery (SRS) has arrived!

Lourdes has purchased a new linear accelerator that is the latest design and provides a full range of treatment options, including SRS. This particular linear accelerator is one of the first to be installed nationally.

Stereotactic Radiosurgery (SRS) is a form of computer-assisted radiation therapy for the destruction of intracranial tumors or lesions by high dosage radiation. A high total radiation dose is delivered to a small tumor volume in a single fraction or a small number of fractions. Radiosurgery minimizes the amount of radiation that is delivered outside the tumor target. As a result, it is possible to deliver a much larger, and presumably more effective, dose to the tumor. Tumors treated using this method are generally inaccessible or unsuitable for open surgery.

Be assured that Lourdes will continue to be a leader in cancer care for this community, and we will continue to work toward providing the highest quality care by offering healthcare that works, healthcare this is safe and healthcare that leaves no one behind.
